The upgrades descriptions could use some improvement. I still have to guess what half of them do. Does the zombie damage increase make them DEAL more damage or TAKE more damage? I assume it increases how much damage they do, but I don't KNOW. The description/tooltip text just repeats what the zombie icon already says, rather than clarifying. + zombie damage, 3 heads

For the weapons the more expensive one is obviously better, but it's not like the description tells me anything about its damage or fire rate or... anything useful. Right now the description box could be absent entirely and it'd functionally be the same.

And besides being required, what's the point of the boss energy upgrades? Delay zombie summoning ever so slightly?

that's a good point, I should pay more attention to it.

Currently, I'm not planning on releasing a new update for this game specifically, I'm using it as a prototype to develop a full version based on this combat style and release it on Steam.

I will keep this in mind for my next game, thanks a lot for your feedback, and I am sorry for your bad experience while playing it :(

easy 9 minutes flat

LOL, this is the new record!
I finished in 10 min during my tests, and I created everything hahaha.

I'm currently developing another Idle game based on this one, this time it will be a full-release version with a lot of new content.

I will also change the game's theme, instead of "Zombies" it will be an RPG around my dog! but I will keep the same combat mechanic, where you can choose the difficulty.

It is still in the early stages but I'm posting a development update every day on this discord: https://discord.gg/yQh4ZmD9Db

If you liked this one, I think that you will LOVE the next one, I will make a YouTube video telling more about the game next week when I have more things to show.

Plus: I will never tag @everyone on my discord haha, so you can join and follow the development when you decide.

If you buy boss upgrades in the wrong order you'll get locked out of lower row of boss upgrades. I bought 2nd zombie type thinking it would have a % to spawn but I can no longer get the 1st zombie kills i need...

Hey, thanks for playing it.

You can still unlock the previous ones using the new heads, for example:
you can unlock an upgrade that costs 3 heads from the first zombie, using 3 heads from the second third, or fourth zombie.

It always accepts a higher tier head, :)

sorry for not mentioning it ingame.

you can also try this version - https://vkaike2.itch.io/zombeez-game-jam-post-jam

is an updated version, and it contains a better behavior, on this new version it works like this, let's say that you have.
1 - head from zombie 01
2 - head from zombie 02

and want to unlock something that costs 3 heads from Zombie 01.

it will take 1 from the first zombie and 2 from the second and unlock for you.

on the current version that you played it is like this:
1 - head from zombie 01
2 - head from zombie 02

and want to unlock something that costs 3 heads from Zombie 01.

it will not allow you to unlock it because it will require 3 heads from zombie 01 or higher, so it will require 3 heads from zombie 02.

I hope that I could explain it properly, thank you for playing it, it means a lot to me.

great game bit sad that level caps befor you can get all skills also feels quite short dont get me wrong short games can still be fun but 9 min is a bit to short for me

hey, thanks for playing it.
this game was made for a game jam in only 15 days, this is why it is that short, sorry for that. :)

but if you want there is this version of the game that contains some quality-of-life updates -  https://vkaike2.itch.io/zombeez-game-jam-post-jam

like the level, which you mentioned and a tutorial.

I haven't updated this page yet because I have to wait for the voting period of this game jam to end.

ah ok makes sense but for a game jam its really quite increadeble nice work my guy

First try 18 minutes~ I could probably get lower now that I know what I'm doing but idk if I want to play again :p It's a great game, I'm just not big on replaying games with few exceptions like skyrim lol

Great game and we understand where the players confusion is coming from, we believe that the zombie spawning should have been automated. Right now is like playing against yourself... right?

Yep, my idea was to create a game where you could limit your own difficulty level, managing risk and rewards.

so if you want to beat the game fast you will need to play risky spawning more zombies than, you and hoping that you will not die.

if you are a beginner and are still learning you could spawn only a few zombies at a time to test things and understand what every upgrade does.

I believe that one of my biggest mistakes was to introduce every upgrade at the start. Would be better if I introduced them gradually, for example:
- unlocking the shop only when you collected X amount of coins.
- introducing the player skill tree only when you level up for the first time.
- showing the boss skill tree goal "kill the boss" when you open it for the first time.

21m38s took a bit to get the hang of it

Tried again, 15m20s

I think that you are the fastest player that I've found until now, looking at the comments haha, good job!

extremely slow!!!!!!!

I'm glad you had fun!

Needs a quick intro to explain how to play the game, otherwise, not to bad!

I agree with you, it would be better if I introduced the mechanics one by one, instead of keeping them open all the time.

It would create a better sense of progression and a better explanation of what everything does.

Thanks for your feedback :)

This was a great game! Charming and well done. A bit tedious at first but it makes purchasing the automation feel really good.

the levels cap at 18 which is 1 skill point shrot of maxing out the skill tree

(1 edit)

When I was developing the level system I had the idea that the player would have to choose between a "drone" playstyle or a "gun".

but looking back at this aspect of the game, I see that I didn't put much thought into it, the level cap is just arbitrary and it would make more sense to add enough levels to unlock the entire skill tree.

I will fix this after the game jam voting period.

I hope that this mistake didn't ruin your experience :)

Thank you for your feedback!
since the submission time isn't over yet, I will upload a new version where you can make the player shoot even when you click on the zombie :)

Don't worry about time, like many other idle games,  you can't lose on this game, if your character dies, it will respawn.

Are you talking about the Player skill tree or the Boss skill tree?
I couldn't reproduce it.

Thanks again for giving it a second try to the game.
